MY NEW MONEY PIT

I lived in a big house in Virginia that was over 40 years old.  It was beginning to become a “Money Pit” for me in that I was constantly sinking money into it replacing roof, water heaters, carpeting, flooring and the list never ends.  So, I moved to Florida and thought my worries were over.

I just moved into a brand new home thinking that I will not have to worry about a thing.  Everything is brand spanking new and should work properly, but soon I was to have to make some improvements.

Geez, after dishing out beau coups amounts of money for the new house, you would think that there would be nothing to worry about.  Honestly, within the first week I realized I would have to tackle a few improvements.

In the kitchen I want HOT water.  Not immediately, I understand. But within a minute. I needed to install a hot water heater under my sink to achieve this goal. Cha ching. The builders choice to install the tankless water heater at the far end of the house was to allow for a hot shower, but no hot water for the kitchen sink for  over 5 minutes.  Well, maybe not that long.  Just seems like it.

The kitchen is truly the “heart of the home”.  After spending much time in my kitchen I came to the conclusion that I needed a switch with dimmer capabilities on the other side of the kitchen.  It was several trips back and forth to the only light switch that made me think of this one. The electrician also installed new drop pendant light  fixtures over the counter..nice job! Since lighting is always a high priority with me, I want lights under the cabinets as well.  I bought some cheap LED fixtures, but they did not do the trick. Cha ching..will have to eventually replace them. The pull out shelving and the new hardware I purchased were great additions for the cabinets.

Hey, now that backsplash paint  is starting to look dirty with sauce splashing, etc.  Need to install some colorful tile sometime soon..Cha ching.  Maybe next year.

The glow of the white, white paint was making me feel I needed to wear shades all day.  Repainting was the answer. I did paint one wall navy blue, but  time to hire someone to repaint the remainder. Cha ching.  Now the glow is softer and that builders grade flat paint is gone.

The exterior of the house needs to reflect our relaxation methods.  I am an avid gardener and NEED to have flowers around me and a great seat in a screened in patio..  Landscaping the yard was purely my effort and hard work.  I could think about adding additional brick pavers, a fire pit and fencing to enhance the backyard …but will have to wait for that big Cha Ching later.

So, you see, a brand new house does not mean no worries or no more money pit problems.  It continues even with a new home as I have very well demonstrated.
